Online Arguments

The Internet Argument That Reached Millions

Blue & Black or White & Gold

Let's Discuss This Argument!

1. Why did you choose this online argument for your assignment?:

I chose this online argument because it is one of the first online arguments I remember seeing and being relevant to my friends and I. It provides examples of credible and thoughtful opinions and arguments, as well as thoughtless and unprofessional arguments.

2. Provide 3 negative examples and concerns you have with this example:

  •     My first concern with this argument is how irrelevant it is to most EVERYONE participating in the comment sections. As user MGCHICOGO writes "I don't understand all the rage over this AT ALL."
  • Since there is no real reason to have concern or interest in this argument people are just posting whatever they want without any relevancy to others or even the initial argument. People began posting crude or explicit language towards other just because they could, along with other comments like "this is so annoying."
  • My last concern was people's unwillingness to listen to others opinions. Users were posting in the comments about being photographers or how to move the image to another website to compare colors and were still getting trolled. Replies would be blunt and rude just because they do not agree with what they had to say.
3. Create 5 rules for how people should argue online correctly:

1. Comment only what contributes positively to the conversation.

There is no need to comment if your only goal is to put others down.

2. Take a breath and think about what you are going to post.

High emotions contribute to false or rude comments.

3. Do your research.

Make sure what you are posting is logical and has credibility behind it.

4. Post like your boss or future employer will view.

This helps you think about your possibly explicit comments you may post, and gives you the opportunity to show off your communication skills.

5. When in doubt, keep it to yourself!

If there is any doubt that what you will say can bring negativity to others or your personal relationships, choose to not post it and keep it to yourself.
